Collectables, A Collection of Tales

Creator: Ron Harrysson Sunhauke, Ron Harrysson Sunhauke (Schaefer) | 2011-10-07

Bobby Pojee (and me following his lead) even went out and drew all sorts of pictures of Marvin and his enormous zit, placing them everywhere we could find. The week after—it snowed, and we all went out and made snowmen with big zits on ...

About this book
In his collection of short tales, poet and storyteller Ron Harrysson Sunhauke (Schaefer) provides a glimpse into a bizarre, humorous, and sometimes frightening world of fantasy as he leads a diverse group of characters on a madcap ride from hometowns to outer space; from youth to old age; and from fascinating possibilities to the wildly impossible.Marvin is a geek who one day discovers a humiliating protuberance on his face. As the pimple grows to an enormous size, Marvin continues to suffer at the expense of his classmates. But one day, Marvin will prove to everyone that looks are not everything. Young Purvis Peevis is rather egregious when it comes to mischief, but his curiosity gets the best of him when he steals a tiny bell from his neighbor that proves to have more power than he ever could have imagined. Middle-aged Bill usually spends his weekends mowing his lawn, but when he shows up at a Bliss Academy seminar, he is told he will soon meet a friendly neighborhood space alien."Collectables" creates forty whimsical journeys that blend the qualities of outer worldly planets and small-town America, forming tales where reality and imagination mingle and generate unforgettable fantasy adventures.

    doubling up

I have purchased all of the Zits books (expensive when shipped to Australia) and I have been disappointed that two of the books contain cartoons repeated from the other books. Be aware that this book contains cartoons from "don't roll your eyes at me" and "are we an us". It would be nice for Amazon to tell us this before we buy.I have a seventeen year old son and I think the "Zits" books have bought us closer together because they place contentious areas into the open in an atmosphere of great humour. 5/5 Peter Liston (SOUTHBANK, VIC Australia) - See all my reviews This review is from: Big Honkin' Zits: A Zits Treasury (Paperback) I have purchased all of the Zits books (expensive when shipped to Australia) and I have been disappointed that two of the books contain cartoons repeated from the other books. A second helping of a great comic strip

Jeremy returns in his second treasury, combining strips from the books "Don't Roll Your Eyes at Me, Young Man!" and "Are We an Us?" Not much has changed since the first treasury. He still wishes his parents would get off his back, he still doesn't understand women, and he still dreams of making it big in music. But whether he's trying to decide what to do about the upcoming Gingivitis concert, win back Sara from a sophomore, support a friend's mom who has cancer, or sneak over to his girlfriend's babysitting job, he's sure to find the humor in any situation.Unfortunately, I don't get the strip in my local paper, so I have to wait for these books to enjoy it. But I can certainly see why it has become such a popular strip. Everyone can appreciate the humor in the storylines, which poke fun at everyone equally. The visual gages are some of the best in the papers today and make for some of the best strips in the book as well. And it's easy to like these characters because they... 5/5 Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) - See all my reviews, April 5, 2002

    Heehehhahahahahheeheeheehhe, yukyukyuk!

I evaluate funnies by the drawings, and, of course, is it funny or not? With that said, here we go.In some ways, I think this comic is influenced by Calvin and Hobbes, one of the most memorable and classic strips. This comic strip is drowned in sarcasm and irony. The drawings have a sort of sketchy quality about them, something that makes them loose and very cool-looking. They have shading and scribbly detail, but are still very clear and easy to understand. It has more than 4 characters, allowing the cartoonist to come up with many interesting character traits. Exploring these personalities is very fun to read. A boy and a girl never seen not hugging each other, a mom, a dad, a big brother, and a boy with a guitar are just some of the characters. I think this strip has about the right amount of characters. This book is my first encounter with the comic and it is very appealing. I won't tell you to buy it, because I'm not a salesperson. I'm merely telling you why I like it. 5/5 "barracudaman232" (St.Paul, MN, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Big Honkin' Zits: A Zits Treasury (Paperback) I evaluate funnies by the drawings, and, of course, is it funny or not? The return of Jeremy Duncan

He is your son, your brother, your neighbor's kid, and your kid's best friend. He is Jeremy Duncan, the sullen star of the hit comic strip "Zits." In the third treasury, "Zits Supersized," Jeremy continues with the typical troubles of a teen -- clueless parents, a longing for freedom, hijinks with pal Hector, and a commitment-phobic girlfriend.Living in the suburbs with his orthodontist dad Walt and child-shrink mom Connie, Jeremy longs for the wild, dangerous life of a rock star. Unfortunately, he's mired in a relatively quiet life. But even if he's not a rocker, Jeremy has plenty of excitement in his life -- he makes the mistake of sleeping nude on the roof, starts calling his dad "Walt," and gets a summer job digging koi ponds. If only he knew what a koi was.A new guy arrives at school -- Pierce, who lives up to his name by having several pounds of metal sticking through various body parts. Jeremy makes the mistake of having an all-night horror-movie... 4/5 E. A Solinas "ea_solinas" (MD USA) - See all my reviews, August 9, 2004

The Humorous Trials of Jeremy Continue

Zits is fast becoming a modern classic comic strip, and with good reason. It is consistently funny. The authors, Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman, use every humor tool available to them to get their point across. And, no matter whether it's exaggeration, sarcasm, understatement, or a hilarious sight gag, this book is sure to entertain. The collection starts with the "director's cut" of "Good Night Dude." The original strip appears later in the collection, but here we get a full spoof of the classic picture book. From there, we launch into the daily strip. This book contains strips from sketchbooks #5 and 6, "Unzipped" and "Busted." As an added bonus, the Sunday comics are in color. We get about a year and a half of strips all in one place. Not only do we get the latest on Jeremy and Sara's rocky relationship, but we get to see Jeremy and Hector start their own summer business for no fun and little profit. Pierce also joins the band this... 5/5 Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) - See all my reviews, March 9, 2004

One of the better Zits collections

There are multiple problems with the Zits series, mainly pertaining to Jeremy's mother (I mentioned this in my review of Random Zits) but this edition gets it pretty well. However, both Big Honkin' Zits and Random Zits were better in terms of plot. Regardless, there are some funny strips here.It has always been blatantly obvious that the situations in the strip were inspired by real teenagers somewhere, and here it doesn't get any better. Sadly, this treasury probably has the highest number of undoubtedly real situations. Despite that, there is not a total absence of plot. Another reviewer said that the buddies come into their own more this time. This is very true- Hector has some pretty awesome comebacks here (yes, even better than his ones during the Amber incident in the last book) and Pierce is introduced. Pierce would be better developed later, but I like to think of this book as the Last Stand of Tim, the one where quiet Tim Olsen left the scene in favor of... 4/5 0, March 5, 2006

    Not functional and poor visuals

As with all things optical you get what you pay for. These are a low cost low quality zoom binoc that does what it says it does but the viewing is mediocre to poor as you zoom it to higher magnification. Also came with debris on the prism which is annoying but does not affect function. The most annoying item is the ability to go out of collimnation for no reason. Takes some expert knocks on the housing to get to see one image again. I'm at the point of throwing them in the trash. 1/5 Robert J. My Little Big Town

Snot, Boogers, Zits and a slightly different take on Zombie domination via mucus...

A memorable and entertaining book. I am not likely to forget this in a hurry and am sure my 7 year old will remind me if I do.I have to admit the part about the little girl licking dirty crusty boogers off the table completely icked me out. It made my son emit an enormous 'Ewww' and then a five minute fit of giggles. He spent a good part of the next day seeing if he could disgust his older siblings with the tale.I really like the odd running commentary that the author has included of himself warning the faint hearted and the easily icked out (insert my name here) to not read any further, especially when it comes to the last chapters. I ignored the warning and kind of wish I hadn't. *Shudder*I would put this at a reading level age 8 upwards. It contains a lot of text so if you have a reluctant reader you might want to do it a few pages at a time. Alternatively you can read it to your child. A lot of the wit is what I would deem not as easy to understand for very young... 5/5 Cheryl M-M (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews This review is from: Gorgeous George & The ZigZag Zit-Faced Zombies (Kindle Edition) A memorable and entertaining book.
