Publisher: John Wiley & Sons

About this book
This book describes the synthesis, properties, and processing methods of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), an important family of degradable plastics. As the need for environmentally-friendly packaging materials increases, consumers and companies are in search for new materials that are largely produced from renewable resources, and are recyclable. To that end, an overall theme of the book is the biodegradability, recycling, and sustainability benefits of PLA. The chapters, from a base of international expert contributors, describe specific processing methods, spectroscopy techniques for PLA analysis, and and applications in medical items, packaging, and environmental use.

About this book
While lactic acid-producing fermentation has long been used to improve the storability, palatability, and nutritive value of perishable foods, only recently have we begun to understand just why it works. Since the publication of the third edition of Lactic Acid Bacteria: Microbiological and Functional Aspects, substantial progress has been made in a number of areas of research. Completely updated, the Fourth Edition covers all the basic and applied aspects of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, from the gastrointestinal tract to the supermarket shelf. Topics discussed in the new edition include: Revised taxonomy due to improved insights in genetics and new molecular biological techniques New discoveries related to the mechanisms of lactic acid bacterial metabolism and function An improved mechanistic understanding of probiotic functioning Applications in food and feed preparation Health properties of lactic acid bacteria The regulatory framework related to safety and efficacy Maintaining the accessible style that made previous editions so popular, this book is ideal as an introduction to the field and as a handbook for microbiologists, food scientists, nutritionists, clinicians, and regulatory experts.

Your Skin Will Thank You for the Alpha-Hydroxy and Lactic Acids!

I stumbled across AmLactin in a drugstore a few years ago. I was looking for something to help with my severely dry, painful skin, when the cosmetics lady asked if she could help. I explained what I was looking for, and why I have trouble with many other lotions. (They feel greasy, don't absorb quickly enough, not strong enough to really help, constant reapplication necessary, doesn't last very long - especially through hand washing.) She enthusiastically recommended AmLactin - and I enthusiastically turned it down after seeing the price. She assured me it was the best lotion she'd ever used, saying she has customers who are such ardent fans that they specifically go to that store just to purchase it (it used to be harder to find), and that I could bring it back for a full refund if I didn't like it. (So it was that last point that changed my mind.)I could not have been happier!! I am a total AmLactin fan now. This stuff is amazing - it will soften even the grossest,... 5/5 Katherine B. Smooths Skin, Evens Skin tone & Hydrates Wonderfully

5/5 Radha - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AmLactin Moisturizing Body Lotion, 14.1-Ounces For the money, I cannot recommend a better product. I am Black and this product eliminates hyperpigmentation on the knees, elbows, inner thighs and buttocks. My skin is even, glowing, soft and hydrated. Even old stretch marks look better. For years, people have remarked upon how beautuful my body skin is. I owe it all to this product. I just wish I started using it as a teenager. No more chronically dry and rough skin, ash or discoloration. I've recommended it to other dark-skinned people (i.e. Indians, Hispanics, etc.), all of whom now swear by it. Best lotion for KP

5/5 Felicia Bracamonte (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: AmLactin Alpha-Hydroxy Therapy Moisturizing Body Lotion for Dry Skin, Fragrance-Free, 15.8oz Twin Pack (7.9oz per bottle) (Health and Beauty) I love this stuff. I have KP on my arms and legs, and I also get a few hormonal breakouts on my arms occasionally. I started using this religiously right out of the shower and it has made SUCH a drastic difference in my skin. I used to be really self conscious of wearing shorts or dresses because my legs were never really soft looking. They always looked red and bumpy, which I hated. After using this, my legs and arms look and feel great. It's not a cure, because when I slack off and don't use it for a few days I can see me skin reverting back to it's old snake-skin ways. I love that it has practically no scent and that it dries down quickly and doesn't leave any type of oily/greasy film or residue. I now purchase the large bottle of this at Costco because it is cheaper but I am definitely a loyal purchaser of this lotion! Great product, but use wisely

I have had chemical peels at spas and it doesn't come close to the results that this product does. It does leave my skin soft afterwards. I recommend using it once, nor more than twice a week as you want to allow new skin cells to generate. It is so simple to use, but it's very important to be careful on how you prep your skin and how long you leave it on. I don't have sensitive skin normally, but there have been some times where I have left the peel on too long, or have exfoliated too hard prior to application, and caused my face to have red blotches and eventually course skin a few days later due to tiny scabs from the burning of the skin. It scrubs off a few days after that, but if you do it right, you won't get those results. Out of the several times I have used this, this only happened a couple times and it was simply due to leaving it on too long or extensive exfoliation prior to application. I personally like to do this on a Friday night so that I don't apply any makeup the... 4/5 Tracy - See all my reviews This review is from: Lactic Acid 50% Gel Peel 1 oz - Enhanced with Kojic Acid & Bearberry Extract (Health and Beauty) I have had chemical peels at spas and it doesn't come close to the results that this product does. Know the difference between glycolic acid peel and lactic acid peel

Barely more than a month ago I was just a newcomer to mini peels, but when I get into something, I do it with gusto. I started out with the 50% glycolic acid peel (also by Perfect Image). The first try didn't go so well, because it burned. Not just tingling, but actually the sensation of heat. I hurriedly washed off the peel. The next time around I diluted the glycolic with water and it felt better, although I was effectively diminishing the effectiveness of the glycolic acid. Next (more than a week after the last peel application - be sure you do the same) I tried a much milder Pineapple Pumpkin enzyme acid peel. It was really comfortable and I liked it. Here is the link: However, it is well known that the higher... 5/5 Edmond - See all my reviews, January 31, 2016

Worked wonders on zits and scars!

I decided to come out of the shadows on my amazon account to write a review for this product - that's how amazing it is!I'm in my early 20s and started suffering from breakouts after barely ever having a zit in my teenage years, save for one once in a blue moon. Now, I have patches of pimples around my chin and on my cheeks. I had no idea what to do - I changed my skincare routine, started using natural soaps and toners and moisturizers, as well as a Clarisonic Mia face cleansing brush, with few results. I also began taking fish oil and vitamin supplements, but that did not work either. A few months ago I resigned myself to the idea that my skin just wouldn't be as clear as it used to be, and began resorting to foundation to cover up the breakouts. However, I randomly stumbled upon this product on Amazon one day. I was hesitant due to some of the mixed reviews, but after contemplating for a while and with my skin getting worse, I decided it would be worth a... 5/5 Mia Aurora - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Don't be afraid! Try this peel

I must admit to being really afraid the first time I tried this peel. BACK STORY: I gave myself an "accidental" face peel as a teenager when I used my moms Retin-A and then went in the sun...I peeled for weeks after that! But since I'm in my early 30s and am now noticing fine lines and wrinkles as well as some sun spots (I love in S. Florida and the sun has done a number on me) I needed to try something, wrinkle creams just don't cut it. Also, I am fair with freckles and want to try to lighten them a bit as well. So, I got the nerve to try this peel and it was a piece of cake! I used a cotton ball and applied a small amount in an even layer all over. I was careful not to get too close to my eyes and lips. The first thing I noticed was how my little patches of acne started to get really red and I my skin was tingly. The directions tell you that if it's your first time using not to leave it on longer than a couple minutes. So when the time was up, I rinsed using plain water and on... 5/5 vandagal - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) LACTIC ACID peel is good FOR peel NEWBIES, SENSETIVE SKIN with HYPERPIGMENTATION & WRINKLES.

On LiveStrong they recommended for newbies to start with 10% and that's what i did. I applied with cotton ball, repeating a few times within those 2 minutes i kept it on. It started burning immidiately but wasn't unbearable. Thanks to the person who said to keep 1 spoon baking soda +glass of water mix on hand to neutralize it. Only my face burned. A spot on my arm & leg where i also applied it didn't burn at all, but i neutralized it and washed away after 2 min anyway. Better to be safe than sorry. You don't want to damage your skin! If your skin gets used to 10%, gradually go up to 20-30%. In this concentrations u can't keep it longer than 10min. I did my research and lactic acid peel was recommended for my type of skin w my issues. My skin is dry, sensetive with some hyperpigmentation i want to get rid of. It is also great for wrinkles. If u not sure which peel to choose, google it first. Peel comes in glass 1oz (30mil) jar. Im very happy w it. It is potent and price is right... 5/5 spacefrost (NYC) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Pores, dark spots, wrinkles and oiliness are gone! Great product!

ok, i dont really take time to write reviews, but oi decided to take some time for this product.
