Publisher: John Wiley & Sons

About this book
This book describes the synthesis, properties, and processing methods of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), an important family of degradable plastics. As the need for environmentally-friendly packaging materials increases, consumers and companies are in search for new materials that are largely produced from renewable resources, and are recyclable. To that end, an overall theme of the book is the biodegradability, recycling, and sustainability benefits of PLA. The chapters, from a base of international expert contributors, describe specific processing methods, spectroscopy techniques for PLA analysis, and and applications in medical items, packaging, and environmental use.

About this book
While lactic acid-producing fermentation has long been used to improve the storability, palatability, and nutritive value of perishable foods, only recently have we begun to understand just why it works. Since the publication of the third edition of Lactic Acid Bacteria: Microbiological and Functional Aspects, substantial progress has been made in a number of areas of research. Completely updated, the Fourth Edition covers all the basic and applied aspects of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, from the gastrointestinal tract to the supermarket shelf. Topics discussed in the new edition include: Revised taxonomy due to improved insights in genetics and new molecular biological techniques New discoveries related to the mechanisms of lactic acid bacterial metabolism and function An improved mechanistic understanding of probiotic functioning Applications in food and feed preparation Health properties of lactic acid bacteria The regulatory framework related to safety and efficacy Maintaining the accessible style that made previous editions so popular, this book is ideal as an introduction to the field and as a handbook for microbiologists, food scientists, nutritionists, clinicians, and regulatory experts.

    Extremely helped my keratosis pilaris

I unfortunately have battled keratosis pilaris for many many years, and it's only made me self conscious. I have it up and down my arms and legs. I've tried exfoliating at times to where my skin was just red afterwards. I did some research and found that this is one if the best lotions to help with keratosis pilaris. After one use, I could tell a difference in the softness of my skin and the bumps had lessened. They definitely were not gone yet but some had felt much better than before. I've continued to use it once in the morning and before I go to bed. My arms and legs are soooo much smoother, and the bumps are almost completely gone. Not totally gone but definitely a dramatic improvement. I was also surprised at the price since this is an expensive lotion in stores. With getting two bottles for such a reasonable price, I couldn't pass it up. I'm definitely stocking up on this as I can't see myself living without it. It is not a cure for keratosis pilaris, but it does keep it under... 5/5 Ashley Y. (Chillicothe, Ohio) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Miracle Worker!

I noticed that I would get these really ugly bumps on my thighs and the back of my calves. I thought they were razor bumps but when they didn't go away after a few months, I was told that they were a form of eczema and the first thing they said was "Get Amlactin". I read a few reviews where many said it cleared their eczema so I gave it a shot. I began to use it right after I showered and it def stings, especially when you shave but I kept at it. I did add a few drops of Tea Tree oil too for good measure. No joke, the following morning, the bumps looked faded, especially the big dark ones. By the end of the week, for the first time in a very long time, I felt the soft skin on my thighs. My mom even noticed and said my legs looked way smoother.Totally gonna keep using this (Tea Tree oil helps majorly. I cannot fathom how much it helps to clear up any skin imperfections). And my skin always feels dewy soft. I apply the lotion in the morning, and hours... 5/5 Rebecca M. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great product, but use wisely

I have had chemical peels at spas and it doesn't come close to the results that this product does. It does leave my skin soft afterwards. I recommend using it once, nor more than twice a week as you want to allow new skin cells to generate. It is so simple to use, but it's very important to be careful on how you prep your skin and how long you leave it on. I don't have sensitive skin normally, but there have been some times where I have left the peel on too long, or have exfoliated too hard prior to application, and caused my face to have red blotches and eventually course skin a few days later due to tiny scabs from the burning of the skin. It scrubs off a few days after that, but if you do it right, you won't get those results. Out of the several times I have used this, this only happened a couple times and it was simply due to leaving it on too long or extensive exfoliation prior to application. I personally like to do this on a Friday night so that I don't apply any makeup the... 4/5 Tracy - See all my reviews This review is from: Lactic Acid 50% Gel Peel 1 oz - Enhanced with Kojic Acid & Bearberry Extract (Health and Beauty) I have had chemical peels at spas and it doesn't come close to the results that this product does. Know the difference between glycolic acid peel and lactic acid peel

Barely more than a month ago I was just a newcomer to mini peels, but when I get into something, I do it with gusto. I started out with the 50% glycolic acid peel (also by Perfect Image). The first try didn't go so well, because it burned. Not just tingling, but actually the sensation of heat. I hurriedly washed off the peel. The next time around I diluted the glycolic with water and it felt better, although I was effectively diminishing the effectiveness of the glycolic acid. Next (more than a week after the last peel application - be sure you do the same) I tried a much milder Pineapple Pumpkin enzyme acid peel. It was really comfortable and I liked it. Here is the link: However, it is well known that the higher... 5/5 Edmond - See all my reviews, January 31, 2016

4/5 AccidentalDiva (Elk Grove) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Lactic Acid 50% Gel Peel 1 oz - Enhanced with Kojic Acid & Bearberry Extract (Health and Beauty) I'm a licensed skin therapist and a Black woman. When applying any chemical peel to brown skin you must be careful and watch for hot spots. This gel peel is great for quick use at home or on clients. But be aware of the time on the skin, Lactic acid can create deep burns and hot spots in rubbed in or not removed correctly.
