Publisher: John Wiley & Sons

About this book
This book describes the synthesis, properties, and processing methods of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), an important family of degradable plastics. As the need for environmentally-friendly packaging materials increases, consumers and companies are in search for new materials that are largely produced from renewable resources, and are recyclable. To that end, an overall theme of the book is the biodegradability, recycling, and sustainability benefits of PLA. The chapters, from a base of international expert contributors, describe specific processing methods, spectroscopy techniques for PLA analysis, and and applications in medical items, packaging, and environmental use.

About this book
While lactic acid-producing fermentation has long been used to improve the storability, palatability, and nutritive value of perishable foods, only recently have we begun to understand just why it works. Since the publication of the third edition of Lactic Acid Bacteria: Microbiological and Functional Aspects, substantial progress has been made in a number of areas of research. Completely updated, the Fourth Edition covers all the basic and applied aspects of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, from the gastrointestinal tract to the supermarket shelf. Topics discussed in the new edition include: Revised taxonomy due to improved insights in genetics and new molecular biological techniques New discoveries related to the mechanisms of lactic acid bacterial metabolism and function An improved mechanistic understanding of probiotic functioning Applications in food and feed preparation Health properties of lactic acid bacteria The regulatory framework related to safety and efficacy Maintaining the accessible style that made previous editions so popular, this book is ideal as an introduction to the field and as a handbook for microbiologists, food scientists, nutritionists, clinicians, and regulatory experts.

    Great product, but use wisely

I have had chemical peels at spas and it doesn't come close to the results that this product does. It does leave my skin soft afterwards. I recommend using it once, nor more than twice a week as you want to allow new skin cells to generate. It is so simple to use, but it's very important to be careful on how you prep your skin and how long you leave it on. I don't have sensitive skin normally, but there have been some times where I have left the peel on too long, or have exfoliated too hard prior to application, and caused my face to have red blotches and eventually course skin a few days later due to tiny scabs from the burning of the skin. It scrubs off a few days after that, but if you do it right, you won't get those results. Out of the several times I have used this, this only happened a couple times and it was simply due to leaving it on too long or extensive exfoliation prior to application. I personally like to do this on a Friday night so that I don't apply any makeup the... 4/5 Tracy - See all my reviews This review is from: Lactic Acid 50% Gel Peel 1 oz - Enhanced with Kojic Acid & Bearberry Extract (Health and Beauty) I have had chemical peels at spas and it doesn't come close to the results that this product does. Know the difference between glycolic acid peel and lactic acid peel

Barely more than a month ago I was just a newcomer to mini peels, but when I get into something, I do it with gusto. I started out with the 50% glycolic acid peel (also by Perfect Image). The first try didn't go so well, because it burned. Not just tingling, but actually the sensation of heat. I hurriedly washed off the peel. The next time around I diluted the glycolic with water and it felt better, although I was effectively diminishing the effectiveness of the glycolic acid. Next (more than a week after the last peel application - be sure you do the same) I tried a much milder Pineapple Pumpkin enzyme acid peel. It was really comfortable and I liked it. Here is the link: However, it is well known that the higher... 5/5 Edmond - See all my reviews, January 31, 2016

Be careful if you have a lot of melanin

4/5 AccidentalDiva (Elk Grove) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Lactic Acid 50% Gel Peel 1 oz - Enhanced with Kojic Acid & Bearberry Extract (Health and Beauty) I'm a licensed skin therapist and a Black woman. When applying any chemical peel to brown skin you must be careful and watch for hot spots. This gel peel is great for quick use at home or on clients. But be aware of the time on the skin, Lactic acid can create deep burns and hot spots in rubbed in or not removed correctly. Worth the price

5/5 Keith88 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Intense Repair 88% Lactic Acid Skin Peel with Free Fan Brush - Unbuffered Professional Grade - Revive Sun Damaged Skin Quickly (Misc.) I've tried numerous peels (jessners, tca10-30%) glycolic 40, and other brands of lactic in 30%. I've seen results with all of them but none that have targeted my post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation like this one! I applied it and waited the entire 10mins( not recommended for first time users). The next morning after showering, I noticed a thick layer of skin had peeled on my cheeks and t-zone. Slight peeling around neck area. I mean it shed like snake skin. I like the fact that the solution had a thicker consistency than most peels. Really helped with ingrown hair bumps... Will continue to buy only this product. Love, love

5/5 Ivory - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Intense Repair 88% Lactic Acid Skin Peel with Free Fan Brush - Unbuffered Professional Grade - Revive Sun Damaged Skin Quickly (Misc.) Love, love, love this product! Im a beginner to peels actually this was my very first one and i was able to do it on my own at home for less then 14 dollars! Ive heard dermatologists prices can be expensive so this is definietly worth the money. Ive been through two pregnancies and have had awful skin discoloration "mask of pregnancy" on my face especially my cheeks and some old acne scars. Used this product twice and no doubt it has made a difference in the apperance of my skin. Once applied to the skin (i used it on my face) it starts to sting. As time progresses and depending how many layers you applied the burning sensation will get more intense. Dont leave it too long though or it will penetrate too deep and that can lead to scarring. Overall great product will be purchasing again. If you found this helpful please hit "helpful button., December 16, 2016

    Works pretty well!

Okay let's get to it. I purchased this product after hearing raves about how great hyaluronic acid is for your skin. A little background info for those who don't know what hyaluronic acid (HA) is, HA is a substance that is naturally present in the human body. HA retains 1000 times its weight in water so it is suppose to be very effective for hydrating the skin. Okay now that we got formalities out of the way let me tell you about my experience. From first use I found that the the HA actually made my skin feel drier! I would wash and dry my face, then apply the HA serum afterwards. But then I found out that I was actually applying it incorrectly. Experts recommend you apply HA to damp skin then after it dries, seal it with a good hydrating moisturizer. (I use cetaphil moisturizing cream for dry skin nothing fancy). After I've started following those direction I noticed a remarkable difference, my skin was plump, hydrated, and it was glowing! Actually works very well

With 4,000+ reviews I can't add much except to say yes it really works.I am 50+ with large pores and in the winter my face becomes rough looking with age lines around the eyes. After a few days of using this I just looked in the mirror and yes, my face now appears unlined and smoother, with an interesting glow...no kidding. I can't wait to see what this looks like in the summer when the air is more humid. Obviously this doesn't 'remove' lines...but plumps the skin slightly to obscure them...but does the 'How' really matter? NOTE: I have also used real Retin-A and glycolic acid and find this better than either. We all have our regimen, here's my new one with this product: - Use a scrub like Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion in the shower. - Right after the shower I use the Hyaluronic acid, 2 drops are enough to cover the entire face and forehead. - After a few minutes of drying I apply my favorite moisturizer over top.TIP: when... 5/5 The Bruce - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
