Publisher: John Wiley & Sons

About this book
This book describes the synthesis, properties, and processing methods of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), an important family of degradable plastics. As the need for environmentally-friendly packaging materials increases, consumers and companies are in search for new materials that are largely produced from renewable resources, and are recyclable. To that end, an overall theme of the book is the biodegradability, recycling, and sustainability benefits of PLA. The chapters, from a base of international expert contributors, describe specific processing methods, spectroscopy techniques for PLA analysis, and and applications in medical items, packaging, and environmental use.

About this book
While lactic acid-producing fermentation has long been used to improve the storability, palatability, and nutritive value of perishable foods, only recently have we begun to understand just why it works. Since the publication of the third edition of Lactic Acid Bacteria: Microbiological and Functional Aspects, substantial progress has been made in a number of areas of research. Completely updated, the Fourth Edition covers all the basic and applied aspects of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, from the gastrointestinal tract to the supermarket shelf. Topics discussed in the new edition include: Revised taxonomy due to improved insights in genetics and new molecular biological techniques New discoveries related to the mechanisms of lactic acid bacterial metabolism and function An improved mechanistic understanding of probiotic functioning Applications in food and feed preparation Health properties of lactic acid bacteria The regulatory framework related to safety and efficacy Maintaining the accessible style that made previous editions so popular, this book is ideal as an introduction to the field and as a handbook for microbiologists, food scientists, nutritionists, clinicians, and regulatory experts.

    Noticeable results after first use!

I never write reviews-- but w/ the results I've gotten from using this product as a lactic acid face peel (not intended for this purpose) I had to! I've tried MUAC products in the past, mandelic acid peel & toner, skin brighten cleanser, fade serum, & a few other of their products. I have to admit, although I love MUAC products, this lactic acid worked much better for me than the Mandelic acid peel.I like that I can dilute it to the strength I choose, & that it's unbuffered.I certainly will be purchasing again, once I get low on this bottle! One bottle should last 6-8 months, depending on how often used, & amount used.If you are a beginner w/ lactic peels, ALWAYS start w/ the lowest concentration.. This is a strong chemical, that can leave terrible burns on your face, if you don't follow the directions properly! Also-- do a patch test before proceeding to a full face peel!I patch tested the area underneath my ear w/ a 44% concentration.. Great product! Will be reordering.

5/5 Jackie - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Lactic Acid 88% 5oz for Home Brew (Misc.) This is a really good product and the pricing is great! The amount you receive ( 5 oz) is excellent compared to other products where you only get 1-2 oz for double or even triple the price. So far I have used this as a chemical peel for my face (50% diluted with distilled water), my feet (full strength) and made 15% lactic acid body lotion and I still have enough product left to do a lot more facial/foot peels. I will be reordering some more just to have an extra around. I do have to say that consistency wise it is really watery right out of the bottle and even more so when diluted with water.
